Tielemans signs, Vieira starts – Mikel Arteta’s dream Arsenal midfield after £150m spend

Arsenal’s summer transfer window isn’t over yet with more incomings and outgoings expected at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners wasted no time in getting their summer business underway with the arrivals of Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira within the opening two weeks of the window. The north London outfit followed up their first three signings with the arrival of former Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko for a combined fee of £77million.

Arsenal are thought to be interested in signing a new central midfielder and winger before the transfer deadline after Mikel Arteta openly admitted the club are still trying to secure more signings before the end of the month.

Lucas Torreira has already sealed a permanent exit from the Emirates Stadium joining Galatasaray in a £6million deal after spending the last two seasons out on loan. Ainsley Maitland-Niles could also be set to leave the club this summer, but Albert Sambi Lokonga looks set to stay and fight for a starting spot in Arteta’s team.

understands Lokonga remains determined to succeed at Arsenal and his focus is on working his way into Mikel Arteta’s first team plans despite recent interest from AC Milan. Lokonga played more than anticipated last season after injuries and suspensions for Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey provided an opportunity for the Belgian.

With the Gunners now playing more of a three-man midfield as opposed to a 4-2-3-1 system, it has meant newly-appointed club captain Martin Odegaard is operating alongside Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey. Arteta is likely to want to add another quality option to that area of his squad, allowing more rotation and competition for places.
